Samar Abbas Nawaz

Samar Nawaz is a PhD candidate at the law faculty of the University of Oslo and PRIO. His research interests lie in the regulatory challenges of emerging technologies. Samar’s PhD is part of an interdisciplinary project called ‘RegulAIR’ which aims to provide new research based knowledge to Norwegian and European regulatory bodies for safe and secure integration of drones in civilian airspace. He is specifically researching the regulatory gaps in the European Union (EU) law on civil drones and cybersecurity caused by smart civil drones.

Apart from presenting his work at various academic conferences, Samar has also been engaging with aviation stakeholders and policymakers. He also holds a master’s degree in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) law from the University of Oslo (UiO).Originally from Pakistan, he studied LLB and worked there as a legal practitioner for around three years.
