Introducing Isabella Brunner, our new postdoctoral researcher
As of April 2024, Isabella Brunner will join The Hague Program on International Cyber Security at Leiden University's Institute of Security and Global Affairs as a postdoctoral researcher.
Isabella Brunner is currently completing her PhD in public international law at University of Vienna, where her thesis focuses on the law of state responsibility and evidentiary standards for attributing cyber operations. With a background as a legal officer at the Austrian Foreign Ministry, she has been consulting the Ministry on legal issues with respect to cyber activities over the years. Amongst other things, she has participated as a legal adviser for the Austrian delegation both at the OEWG 2019-2021 and OEWG 2021-2025. Most recently, she assisted in drafting the Austrian position on international law applicable to cyber operations, which will soon be published. Isabella’s academic journey includes researcher and lecturer roles in public international law at the University of Vienna and Bundeswehr University Munich. She also worked for the Ad Hoc Committee on Cybercrime at UNODC as a JPO and last year received a Fulbright grant to study at NYU School of Law.
